Dark Places in Old England - Northern Exposure Part 10

Writer's picture: TIMOTHY SHORTTIMOTHY SHORT

As a child I used to mess about in alleyways - taking shortcuts etc, but I guess gating them off makes it harder for burglars and criminals to take advantage. However, when they are left to gather rubbish and for weeds to grow they become an eyesore and devalue the local housing. I am sure the council will say they cannot afford to have them cleaned, which leaves it up to volunteers such as Bootle Action Group to fill the void. There must be a better way of keeping on top of this and protecting our social fabric.
